All OECD societies are aging as measured by the proportion of the population aged 65 and older<\/strong>. In this series, Patrice de Broucker<\/a> reviews a few countries’ own experience on the basis of data measuring the phenomenon since 1950 and pushing the projections through to 2100.<\/p>\n

In this series<\/h3>\n

Aging, as applied to a national population’s evolution, is a process that essentially depends on two demographic parameters: the fertility rate and the life expectancy. Observation of these is the basis for this series. Whenever appropriate in particular national situations, other parameters may be brought into the analysis, for example immigration. Some connections with labour force development are obvious to make as well.<\/p>\n

Patrice’s take<\/strong>: laying the ground for necessary policy discussions is of high importance on this topic \u2013 this is what we try to do without getting lost into details.<\/p>\n
